Our Principles

Whilst Artemis was a hunter, she was very aware of her responsibility to nature. She was especially fierce in her protection of the gentle animals that were usually preyed upon. She was also not the least bit interested in cultivating the land or in harnessing the forces of nature to benefit mankind. Artemis could easily be described as a nurturer, protector and even an early environmentalist.

Again, Artemis has inspired us in how we chose to approach our business at Artemis Creations. It is our intent to support and connect with the communities who create this beautiful work. When we travel to many of these countries, we now stay in the homes of the people we do business with. They are our friends.

We are very aware of our role in ensuring the responsible cultivation of trees for the carvings. For instance, the ebony carvings are rightly limited by the Tanzanian Government, who have developed a replanting programme that is more than four decades old. Also, in our support of the Shona’s artists of Zimbabwe, who wish to continue this artform that has been passed from generation to generation. These talented artists fear overcommercialisation of their work, and so limit the carvings by producing only very high quality sculptures.

At ‘Artemis Creations’ it is our intent to give back to these communities and to this end we sponsor several children in Africa and an orphanage run by women in Sri Lanka. Plus we contribute to organisations that are designed to support the natural world, such as WWF and The Woodland Trust. It is our hope that in owning a piece of ‘unique art inspired by nature’, it connects us all to the beauty of the natural Earth and serves as a reminder of our role in protecting it.
